Director-Beacon (Job Description)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Beacon Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full Time, Salaried Employee (+ Benefits)
Education: Minimum education, BA degree (Masters preferred), in education, social work administration, criminal justice, or a related human service area, and relevant experience in sociology.
Experience and Qualifications: Five years experience either in non-profit or community-based human services. Demonstrated ability to problem solve. Experience in supervising staff in a variety of roles and skilled at working respectfully with diverse populations. Good computer (MS Office Suite), verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work as a contributing team member and to work independently. Well-developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize and delegate when necessary. Can identify staff and organizational development needs and use good judgment in requesting assistance.
Position Details: Responsible for all day-to-day program activities, including, supervision and development of staff, identifying and meeting the needs of youth and their families, and oversight management of Beacon Center. Evening and some weekend hours required. Travel required in and around the City of Philadelphia (Must own car with valid driver’s license).
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supervise program staff at Beacon Center.
- Manage the development of all programs and relevant family/youth support services
- Plan and implement all function/events that pertain to staff, families, and youth at the Beacon Center
- Responsible for outreach and recruitment of Beacon participants
- Coordinate staff training and development
- Coordinate and conduct all program site meetings
- Manage an office staff
- Develop Beacon Council and relevant Community partners
- Develop relevant resources that would improve and enhance programs and services at the Beacon Center
- Attend IDAAY systems wide Administrative and planning meetings
- Attend relevant external meetings and conferences in and around the IDAAY’s geographical service areas
- Assist IDAAY Administration in the public relations and maintenance of website (in conjunction with website consultant)
- Assist IDAAY Administration in program evaluation
- Prepare/present relevant reports as needed
- Assist IDAAY Administration in research / grant writing efforts relating to areas of development for this Project
Public Relations: Regular contact with IDAAY personnel, the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, the Philadelphia Family Court, School District of Philadelphia personnel, area residents, and local Community and Faith-Based organizations.
